We, the residents of Montclair, demand that our town leadership immediately develops and implements a deer management program. The growing deer population and their shrinking habitat have forced deer to stake a claim on our trees, shrubs and flowers. In addition, deer are a known transmitter of ticks. Tick bites can cause irritation and infection. Ticks also carry and transmit diseases such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, among others. We understand that the Essex County is already implementing a county-wide Deer Management Program, but we feel that it is not sufficient and demand that Montclair Township takes an active role in helping its residents protect their property and health of their children.
