Support for J.K. Rowling's Actions Against eBay

This is a petition supporting the sentiments expressed and actions taken by J.K. Rowling in regards to the online auction company, eBay, Inc.

Every year, thousands of forged, fraudulent, and illegal Harry Potter items are listed on eBay. J.K. Rowling has repeatedly requested that eBay police these items more carefully. eBay has refused to do so, stating that they can only react to the desires of their customers. In this case, however, the customers in question are often children.

By signing this petition we are declaring our support for J.K. Rowling. We feel there is a significant problem with fraud in the area of Harry Potter collectibles on eBay. Furthermore, we suggest that eBay has acted in an irresponsible manner by not addressing this fraud and recommend that they remedy the situation by implementing the following changes at a minimum:

• refusing to list illegal merchandise such as materials which infringe on copyrights held by J.K. Rowling and any of her business partners;
• removing listings immediately when they are identified by J.K. Rowling, her legal representatives, or her business partners as infringing on copyrights or containing forged signatures;
• providing COA and authentication guidance whenever a signed book or piece of memorabilia is purchased (similar to what eBay already provides for purchasers of sports memorabilia); and
• providing authentication services free of charge when a buyer is seeking a refund from a seller due to alleged fraudulent behavior.

We urge eBay to voluntarily make their auction and sales sites safer places for Harry Potter fans to use. Barring eBay's voluntary action, we support any legal remedy pursued by J.K. Rowling and/or her legal representatives.
