Elect Keith Whitley to the Country Music Hall of Fame!

We, the forever (as well as the continuing and growing new) dedicated and devoted fans of Keith Whitley request that Keith Whitley (born Jackie Keith Whitley in Ashland, Kentucky on July 1, 1954) be inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame.

Keith Whitley was raised in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, where he won a singing talent contest at the age of four for his performance of the song “Big Iron”. At age 13, Keith Whitley formed his own band the Lonesome Mountain Boys , Later he joined
Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys Band. In 1973, at age 19, Keith Whitley formed a band called The New Tradition. This band later became known as The Country Store which, under this name, recorded one album titled “Country Store Live”. In 1973, Keith Whitley was voted the most promising Bluegrass singer and, then, re-joined Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys Band as their lead singer. In 1978, Keith Whitley left The Clinch Mountain Boys Band and joined J.D. Crowe and The New South Band. That same year, he recorded his second album, “My Home Ain’t in the Hall of Fame”. This album was recorded live in Japan. In 1982, Keith Whitley decided to move to Nashville where he signed a contract with Tree Publishing Company as a song writer where he wrote songs for performers such as Alabama and George Jones. In 1983, Keith signed a recording contract with RCA Records. The first RCA album was “Hard Act to Follow”, but this album didn’t take off. The second RCA album, “L.A. to Miami” had the hit single “Miami My Amy”. The follow-up RCA album, “Don’t Close Your Eyes”, produced three number one hits: “Don’t Close Your Eyes”; “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” which was Billboards #1 in 1989; and “When You Say Nothing At All” which was Billboards #1 in 1988. Another Billboards #1, “I Wonder Do You Think of Me”, was released after Keith Whitley’s untimely death on May 9, 1989.

Keith Whitley's music and memory are still very strong, and his fans are very dedicated in keeping his music and memory alive. We feel Keith deserves to be a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. It’s been nearly two decades since the passing of our “Kentucky bluebird”. Keith had an amazing musical career. His voice is still heard today all over the world. Keith’s beautiful voice earns him new fans, his music has stood the test of time, and his music has had an influence on many of today’s country singers.

Please join us, Friends and Fans of Keith Whitley, by signing this petition asking the Country Music Hall Of Fame to give Keith Whitley a long overdue honor: a deserved place in The Country Music Hall of Fame.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
