This petition is requesting that the new Auditorium for the Mansfield Independent School District be named in honor of former MISD School Board Member Mr. John Mark Washington, the first African American elected by the citizens of Mansfield to serve on the school board from 1996-2005.
Mr. Washington served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in the public school system of Texas for 35 years. He also served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1952-54 and received, a good conduct metal, sharp shooter metal, and two bronze stars for combat service in the Korean War.
