CBS: Please Reconsider the Decision to Remove "Joan of Arcadia" from the Fall 2005 Lineup |
To: CBSI, along with millions of others, have been a loyal viewer of the CBS show "Joan of Arcadia" since the first episode premiered two seasons ago. "Joan" was a show that I could look forward to watching every Friday night, and the message it sent was especially special in that it was one of the few shows I felt did not advertise or condone indecent messages about sex, drugs, money, and immoral behavior.
To make it clear, I am not here to chew anyone out and curse CBS or threaten to boycott the network. However, as a 17-year-old viewer of "Joan," I must say, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in CBS's decision to cancel the third season of the show. I do not see the logic in replacing a show in which people - young and old alike - can go to bed at night having learned something about the nature of God and His ways, with a show that revolves around talking to ghosts, or, to put it blatantly - the devil and his demons. To think that television networks believe the youth of today would rather worship evil than to grow in God is something that I fear has happened with the cancellation of "Joan." There are already enough satanic themes in television today, with shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Medium," and a slew of others, and America does not need another show to add to that list. What the youth of today, and the entire nation of America for that matter, needs are constant reminders that there is something higher to live for than what this world has to offer, that each and every person has a higher calling, and that what may seem like an ordinary day may not be that ordinary when God is involved. "Joan of Arcadia" reminded us of all that, and then some.
I always believed CBS was unique because it aired a show that was like no other. There is no network that I know of, be it NBC, FOX, ABC, and now CBS, that currently airs a show that can compare with what "Joan" was. Let me say it again - as a youth of today, a 17-year-old that is supposedly supposed to be someone that is into talking to ghosts in her spare time - I am VERY disappointed in CBS and the decision it made to remove "Joan" from the air.
I speak for the people - the ones that loyally tuned in every week to see where God would lead Joan next, the ones that are as disappointed as I am about the removal of "Joan of Arcadia" from CBS. While I respect the fact that CBS has every right to cancel whatever show it deems necessary, I feel that I, and those that agree with my statements, have the right to peacefully protest the decision made to cancel the show.
We, the undersigned, hereby protest the decision made by CBS to remove "Joan of Arcadia" from the air, and we ask CBS to realize that by removing a program with such excellence and integrity, it is further destroying what little is left of good quality television.
Thank you for your time.Sincerely,
