FREE JOHNNY MOSS

We, the undersigned, are submitting this petition in support of the Executive Clemency application of ADC inmate John Thomas Moss, #079311.

Mr. Moss was convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole for a murder in which he had no part and didn’t know was going to occur.

Mr. Moss gave a new acquaintance a ride to “pick up his final paycheck” from his previous employment. When they arrived at their destination, Mr. Moss went directly to another room to phone his wife, who was at their home in MO. He was in the other room during the entire time leading up to the crime, having difficulty getting through to the number because he was intoxicated and didn’t realize they had crossed the state border into AR.

Upon hearing a commotion in the other room, Mr. Moss went to investigate, and was just in time to save the life of the victim’s wife by pushing her out of the way, thus saving her life. The bullet meant for her hit him in the carotid artery, and he nearly died himself.

Mr. Moss is not now, nor has he ever been a violent person. Murder, or participating in a murder is just not in his character. He was simply a victim of tragic circumstances which have thus far cost him more than 22
years of his life.

Mr. Moss entered the ADC in September of 1982, and is now 55 years old. His elderly mother is in poor health and she, his daughter and grandchildren live in Arizona. Because they are of limited financial means, they are not able to visit Mr. Moss, and they very desperately need and want him home.

Governor Huckabee, Johnny Moss is not a danger to society. He has grown to middle age and reformed his life during his years in custody. All he wants is to go home, where he can work and enjoy his family. He wants to become a contributing member of society, working with trouble children. He deserves that opportunity.

His conviction and sentence were a miscarriage of justice that you have the power to rectify. I sincerely urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to give a kind and deserving man’s life back to him and
his family.
