A Statue For Jimmy Sirrel |
To: Nottingham City CouncilJimmy Sirrel was, and still is, a legend at Notts. County Football Club.
As manager of Notts. County, he took the club from the fourth tier of English football to the second in just under four years (1969-1973) and, during his second tenure as manager, gained Notts. County promotion to the first division for the first time since 1926.
He built a team to be proud of which included club legends such as Don Masson, David Needham, Bob Worthington and Les Bradd. Under his management, Notts. County became a team to be feared by opponents, and he made the fans believe in the club.
The acheivements of Brian Clough at arch-rivals Nottingham Forest have already been realised by Nottingham City Council, through the unveiling of a statue in the City Centre. Jimmy Sirrel's acheivements at Notts. County also need to be realised and so it is to this end that we feel that a staue of Jimmy Sirrel should be built outside Meadow Lane so that his name, legend and spirit can live on forever.Sincerely,
