We, the undersigned, call on the Secretary of State and Officials in Immigration Department to review the deportation order for Penda Evaristus Youdjeu on the 18th of October 2008, in order that a full and unbiased judicial review take place.

As a friend and surety of Penda I have organized this petition in order that the unjust nature of his threat of deportation be brought to the attention to the relevant authorities. I have been a British Citizen for more than 80 years, and am deeply troubled by his treatment by my government.

Penda left Cameroon in 2004, having been encouraged to apply to join the British Navy. Prior to entering Britain, he achieved a Masters Degree in International Marketing in Sweden and a degree in Political Science in Cameroon. Our Navy accepted his application, but Penda ran into problems because his work permit was too short.

During his absence from Cameroon the situation there deteriorated for his politically active family. His father was forced to flee to a neighboring country, and their family home was destroyed. Penda was part of the same political group, which now places his life in danger.

A warrant for his arrest in Cameroon is currently held by his solicitor, together with an affidavit confirming the seriousness of his situation. Penda's fear of human rights abuse and persecution in Cameroon is well founded.

The Immigration Department of the Home Office placed Penda in Norwich for a year, where he now has strong attachments to church, families, and voluntary organizations. Early this year he was detained in Oakington and has been transferred to the Colnbrook Deportation Center.

Throughout detention at these two establishments there have ongoing inconsistencies and severe administrative failures in the handling of his case. This series of injustices perpetrated against him culminated in an unprovoked beating that he received at the hands of Colnbrook officers. The incident resulted in open wounds and has been taken up by the non-profit group Medical Justice which are supporting a court case in this matter, as well as being covered by the Independent in a Sept. 6th article.

I, and many others who know this intelligent and able man, are deeply concerned for his safety and welfare, and have been frankly appalled by his treatment by the immigration system. We are confident that a full and unbiased judicial review would lead to a cancellation of his deportation order, and allow him to stay in this country where he would prove a valuable member of society.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
