We, the undersigned citizens, voters, and taxpayers of Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda, NY, oppose the destruction of the entire block of Delaware Avenue from East Hazeltine to Kenmore Avenue to build a Walgreen's pharmacy.
We are satisfied that the neighborhood is adequately served by the six existing drugstores within four miles of the proposed site, including an existing Walgreens less than one mile away and a Rite Aid three blocks away.
We believe that the rich architectural heritage, appealing pedestrian scale, and existing small businesses of Delaware Avenue will be irreparably damaged by the imposition of an out-of-scale, big box retail store.
We demand that our elected and appointed officials block this assault on Kenmore and that Walgreens instead select one of the areas many "shovel ready sites" outside of Kenmore.
