Let Foreign Nationals Register On-Line in Korea Too |
To: Korean GovernmentWhereas:
-Approximately 1% of the population in Korea is composed of foreign nationals;
-There are a great number of foreign-born Koreans living overseas;
-The Republic of Korea has established itself as a leader in internet technology and a great many services are available only through the internet;
-When attempting to register on-line for various sites, the vast majority do not support registration with any number but a Resident Registration Number, not available to foreign-born residents;
-Those without a Korean registration number are seriously hindered when attempting to sign up for on-line bulletin boards, employment databases, newspapers, company websites, real estate sites, and just about anything else that requires on-line registration to use;
-There is an extremely large number of people who wish to be more active residents of the Republic of Korea, or would like to do more on-line research before deciding to take up residence but are barred from doing so:
We request that the Korean government enact a law that any service providing on-line registration or any other form of registration also make it possible for foreign nationals with foreign registration numbers or people from overseas to register as well.
Note that we are not necessarily suggesting that all sites print up a separate page in English or any other foreign language to accommodate those who do not speak Korean, but rather that provisions are put into place to allow any and all who wish to sign up for a certain service to be able to do so without being a Korean national.

- 해외에서도 한국교포가 많이 살고 있으며 ,
- 대한민국이 인터넷의 선구자로서 아주 많은 서비스들이 인터넷에서만 이용할 수 있으며 ,
- 온라인에서 등록하려 할 경우에 주민등록번호가 필요 할 경우가 많으며,
- 주민등록번호가 없는 자는 온라인게시판, 직장검색데이터 베이스, 신문사이트, 회사홈페이지, 부동산사이트 등을 이용하려 할 경우에 주민등록번호가 없으면 큰 어려움을 겪으며,
- 더욱더 활약적인 주민이 되고 싶거나, 대한민국에 이사하기 전에 더 많이 알아 본 다음에 가고 싶지만 주민등록번호가 없음으로서 못 하는 자가 많기 때문에:
여기에 서명한 사람들이 대한민국정부에게 등록이 필요한 모든 사이트가 외국인등록번호나 해외에 살고 있는 사람들도 등록할 수 있게 법률을 제정하기를 원힙니다. 단, 해외거주자도 등록할 수 있게 꼭 영문이나 다른 언어로 쓰어진 등록 페이지를 원하는 것이 아니며, 다만 등록하고 싶은 모든 사람들이 주민등록번호가 없어도 등록할 수 있게 하기를 원합니다.
