Currently in the state of Wisconsin gender expression and identity are not included in Hate Crime Legislation. That means certain people are lacking the protection they should receive for being alive and living in our country. Gender expression entails the physical manifestation of one's gender identity, usually expressed through clothing, mannerisms, and chosen names. While Gender identity means a person's sense of identification with either the male or female sex, as manifested in appearance, behavior, and other aspects of a person's life.
By not including certain people in a Legislation about protection and receiving justice, we are not putting people on even ground. If someone is killed for the way they view or express themselves we need to ensure justice and punishment for what occurred. Killings occur that arent rightfully punished/dealt with because of a lack of Hate Crime Legislation. We need to change this and included not only sexual orientation (which has already been passed) but also Gender Identity and Expression.
If you believe we need to extend Wisconsins Hate Crime Legislation to include gender expression and identity, then please sign this petition. By doing so you will be taking a stand, and helping our state move forward towards equal rights and protection.
