Preserve Lady Anne's Hotel |
To: The Planning InspectorateBurghley House Preservation Trust Ltd has applied to partially demolish the beautiful, stone, Grade 2 Listed Buildings at the Lady Anne’s Hotel in Stamford and build a large modern extension. English Heritage has repeatedly recommended that these plans should be rejected as harmful to the special interest and setting of the listed buildings.
The proposed development would also dramatically increase parking on surrounding roads leading to serious road safety issues, congestion, noise and pollution. In addition it would impact seriously on the privacy of young female students at Park House.
The plans were twice rejected unanimously by the elected Stamford Town Council. They were further rejected on 4 August 2009 by 80 percent of the elected district councillors of South Kesteven District Council present at the development control (planning committee) meeting.
Many organisations in Stamford, including the Civic Society, are objectors.
We call upon the Inspector to recognise that the will of the voters and citizens of Stamford has been clearly and consistently expressed, democratically, through our elected representatives, and to reject this appeal.
Sincerely,
