STOP THE NJ TRANSIT LAND GRAB!
Senate Bill 2972 is a bill planned for the lame duck session that will remove all municipal land use authority and local control over property owned by New Jersey Transit. Under the proposed law, NJ Transit would be able to build massive development projects, free from local zoning laws. And thats not all the bill may also provide authority to condemn adjacent properties through eminent domain!
This bill is an early Christmas present for the biggest developers in New Jersey and their associates. There is a particular threat that is happening right now in Hoboken, where NJ Transit has a plan to build several 40-story buildings and a 70-story skyscraper, totally out of scale with the rest of the city. If this bill becomes state law, Hoboken will lose control over its own future NJ Transit will turn this thriving small city into a miniature Manhattan whether its citizens and taxpayers like it or not.
NJ Transit owns property all over New Jersey, and every such town is affected. It is time for the citizens of New Jersey to stand together and fight this assault on our states towns and cities!
Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason is leading a statewide effort to stop SB 2972. Shes organizing a public meeting where public officials and private citizens can join together, stand up and make our collective voices heard!
