We, the undersigned, nominate and petition the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Artists and Sciences (otherwise known as the Oscars) to honor and award the 2010 Academy Honorary Award to Lata and Asha Mangeshkar, the most recorded song artists in the world and in recognition for their life achievement and contribution to the cause of humanity, peace, and the motion picture industry. Together, the sisters have reportedly recorded between 40,000 45,000 songs spanning more than a combined 120 years of recording history in several dozen languages, primarily from the Indian subcontinent.
Hundreds of millions of people around the globe, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (and all countries in between), wake up every morning to the adorable melodies sung by these two artists. It only befitting that Lata and Asha Mangeshkar's eternal legacy must be recognized and honored by a 2010 Joint-Academy Honorary AMPAS Award.
