Ngày 4 tháng 3 năm 2005, cơ quan an ninh điều tra Bộ công an đă đề nghị Viện Kiểm sát nhân dân tối cao truy tố phóng viên Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh, báo Tuổi trẻ Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, theo tội danh “chiếm đoạt tài liệu bí mật nhà nước”.
Phóng viên Lan Anh đă đăng tin Bộ y tế sẽ thanh tra ṭan diện công ty Zuellig Pharma Việt Nam, công ty được cho là lũng đoạn thị trường thuốc, gây tăng giá làm hại người nghèo. Cơ quan điều tra xác định về h́nh thức, công văn trên của Bộ Y tế thuộc danh mục tài liệu bí mật nhà nước, do vậy đă khởi tố phóng viên báo Tuổi Trẻ.
Qua những thông tin công khai trên các phương tiện thông tin đại chúng, chúng tôi nhận thấy những vi phạm (nếu có) của phóng viên Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh là rất nhỏ so với lợi ích từ loạt bài báo chống tăng giá thuốc, độc quyền thuốc của cô mang lại cho số đông người dân Việt Nam trong thời gian qua.
Chúng tôi- những người Việt Nam mong muốn được hưởng một nền y tế lành mạnh, các nhà báo và những người ủng hộ nền báo chí Việt Nam- cùng kư tên dưới đây để bày tỏ ḷng tin rằng nhà nước Việt Nam sẽ đối xử với phóng viên Lan Anh một cách khách quan, công bằng nhất.
Chúng tôi mong rằng sự việc phóng viên Lan Anh sẽ được xem xét với quan điểm đặt lợi ích của nhân dân lên trên hết.
Chúng tôi cũng tin rằng phóng viên Lan Anh sẽ được đối xử công minh để 13 ngh́n nhà báo Việt Nam hiểu họ được pháp luật bảo vệ, được Nhà nước khuyến khích khi cầm bút chống tiêu cực, góp phần xây dựng một nền hành chính quốc gia trong sạch, vững mạnh.

On March 4, 2005, the investigative authorities proposed to the People’s Supreme Procuracy to prosecute journalist Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh of Tuổi Trẻ Newspaper for “appropriating a state-secret document.”
Journalist Lan Anh reported on the Ministry of Health’s plan to conduct a comprehensive inspection on Zuellig Pharma Vietnam, a pharmaceutical company believed to be manipulating the drug market, fixing drug prices, thus, bringing harm to the poor. The investigative authorities concluded that, in form, the Ministry of Health’s document containing such information belongs to the “state secret” category. Therefore they propose the prosecution.
Through the information available in the media, we see that journalist Lan Anh’s alleged violation, if any, is very minor compared to the benefits that her series of articles brings to the Vietnamese population.
We, the Vietnamese who wish to enjoy a healthy health care system, the press professionals and the supporters of the Vietnamese press, together sign this Petition to express our belief that the Vietnamese government will treat journalist Lan Anh objectively and fairly.
We wish that the case against Lan Anh will be examined under the principle that the People’s interest is the utmost.
We also believe that journalist Lan Anh will be treated fairly so that all thirteen thousand Vietnamese journalists may see that they are protected by the law and encouraged by the government in raising their voice against corruption and negativism, contributing to the construction of a clean and strong national governing system.
