Smoking and non-smoking areas at Los Angeles Valley College |
Please note, the student ID number is optional but recommended.
To: ASU, AdministrationWe believe that the ASU at Valley College need to reconsider he location of the designated smoking areas, to make it more convenient for smokers and non-smokers alike. We realize that part of the reason for the high non-compliance rate is due to the inconvenience of the current smoking areas. We also believe that enforcement of the rules as they stand today would be illogical due to the placement of current designated smoking areas near covered walkways and buildings, defeating much of the point of the rule if a large group of smokers were to congregate there.
We propose making some of the more open areas of the campus (away from buildings and covered walkways) open to smoking, and removing the designated smoking area in from of the Administration building (right next to a covered walkway). Proposed areas include part of the grassy area around Monarch Square, the horseshoe in front of the Campus Center, part of the area between the north and south gyms, and potentially other areas. Most importantly however, we believe that the ASU needs to discuss this issue, and end uncertainty about the rules and their enforcement.Sincerely,
