The Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgendered Resource Centre at Memorial University of Newfoundland (LBGT-MUN) is calling on the federal government to support the courts decision (July 2002) to recognize same-sex marriages.

We believe that marriage is presently a heterosexual privilege that lbgt persons should have the choice to participate in. We feel that the love an lbgt person feels for his/her partner should receive the same level of social acceptance, through the institution of marriage, as is presently enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

We encourage members of the public to sign our petition and to ask their friend and family to do so as well. By doing so, signets state: "I agree with the view that same-sex marriages deserve to be legally recognized and supported in Canada. I also believe that the federal government should accept the courts ruling in support of same-sex marriages, and should thus end their appeal of this decision."

In addition to signing this petition, members of the public are encouraged to send letters to their local Member of Parliament (MP), and other governmental representatives, voicing their support for lbgt persons as we fight to have our love recognized.

Thank you.
