Petition Opposing the Proposed Wind Farm on Lookout Mountain

I am opposed to the efforts of a European Private Developer to construct a potential 120-unit, 450-ft tall massive Wind Turbine Farm in populated, residential Chattooga and Walker Counties on Lookout Mountain in Georgia.

I oppose this unprecedented intrusion of a precious public natural resource and naturalist preserve. I oppose the installation of these massive turbine towers in the proposed area at the headwaters of the Little River, a National Wildlife Refuge and a magnet for the vital tourism and camping businesses which are the heart of the local economy.

I oppose the location of this industrial machinery in the middle of one of Americas most amazing natural wonders. I have great concern for the health, financial and lifestyle well-being of the people in the targeted area given the documented health effects, land and property value decline.

I am opposed to the noise and light pollution that will violate homeowners and drive away the abundant wildlife. The transformation of this tranquil area into a construction site will require that hundreds, potentially thousands, of acres be dug up for transmission lines and millions of pounds of explosive may be used blasting the cavernous rock strata which will threaten the quality of water in the pristine Little River system.

I have a concern that this project appears to be based on the developer gaining large US Government subsidies. According to the US Dept of Energy Wind Resources map used to show favorable area for industrial wind energy development, Lookout Mountain does not appear as a viable area. In addition, the citizens of other wind farms have found the promise of lower electric bills and lower taxes have not been kept since Utilities typically charge a premium for Alternative or Green energy.

We, the undersigned, oppose the industrialization of Lookout Mountain, a populated residential mountain supporting residents, retirees, camps, tourists, recreation, national parks, wildlife, bats, bird life and unparalleled vistas. Lookout Mountain is an inappropriate location for a large-scale industrial wind turbine complex. We (I), the undersigned, register our (my) strong objections to the Lookout Mountain proposed wind farm development.
