Torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment are despicable, immoral, illegal and always wrong.

The United States Congress should not only condemn but seek to prosecute to the full extent of the law any of these acts by the Bush administration and its lawyers.

The use of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment does not ensure safety or yield good intelligence.

The use of torture is an affront to human dignity that can never be justified and must be opposed in every country of the world.

We should never allow fear to cloud our judgment in such a way as to lead to cruel and inhumane treatment.

America should be leading the world by its example.

We call on the U.S. Congress and the Justice Dept. to pursue these memorandums and prosecute those found guilty to the fullest extent of the law.
