Request to the EXCO of the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong to perform their duty to immediately convene an EGM for the purpose of voting on a motion of no-confidence on the Chairwoman of the Association

We, ordinary members of the Malaysian Association in Hong Kong (MA), call upon the Patron of MA, to request the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong to perform their duty to immediately convene an Extra Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) for the purpose of voting on a motion of no-confidence on the Chairwoman of the Association.

A written request for an EGM by 22 ordinary members of MA was delivered to the MA EXCO on 27 August 2008 but to date no action was taken by the EXCO to convene an EGM. We are of the opinion that there is no basis for the EXCO to delay the EGM. The delay of the EGM does not serve the interest of MA members and the Malaysian community in Hong Kong. It is also unconstitutional.

The request for an EGM is strictly in accordance with article 18 "An Extra Ordinary General Meeting of the Association may be summoned at any time by the Executive Committee, and shall be so summoned immediately upon any 20 ordinary members delivering a written request to the Executive Committee. An Extra Ordinary General Meeting shall be summoned by sending out proper notice to all members at least twenty one days before the day appointed for the meeting”. The conduct of the present EXCO goes against the objects of the constitution to bring Malaysians in Hong Kong together. By failing to issue receipts for payment and membership cards and to answer legitimate questions put to them in correspondence and failing to give a reason why they say the request for an EGM is defective, EXCO is bringing the Association into disrepute and the help of the Patron is requested merely to ask that they discharge their duty to its members.
