We, the undersigned, support the establishment of a Mandarin (Chinese) immersion program in the Eugene School District 4J. We believe that a Mandarin immersion school will greatly benefit and enhance the educational opportunities available to the children in this community. In addition to the potential for improving academic achievement, a Chinese immersion program will build bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural awareness, and prepare our students to be global citizens. By signing this petition, we support the implementation of a Chinese immersion program in the Eugene School District 4J by the Fall of 2010.
