Marble Mountain Proposed Firing Range

To:  Warren County Freeholders

We the undersigned oppose the proposed firing range for public & police use to be located on Marble Hill Road in Lopatcong Township. Rifle qualifications will take place at this site using (but not limited to M-16 rifle and MAC10 machine guns). The bullets from these guns have a projectile range of up to 5 miles. There are many school bus stops , Lopatcong Middle School and Lopatcong Recreation fields fall within this range. This property is Preserved Open Space and is known as the Marble Hill Natural Resource Area. (No disturbance of wildlife and vegetation) This land was purchased with funds voted for by the residents of this state to secure this property for Open Space and there was never a precondition to include a shooting range, This area is hiked by many residents and this firing range would take this area away for future residents to enjoy. The firing range use is not compatible with the County’s Master Plan for Open Space use. This location is surrounded by preserved farm and is not compatible with the quality of life and quietness intended for this area.
