We write to you in deepest respect and appreciation for your dedication toupholding the principles of human rights.Today, we write to you in regards to the death sentence handed down to SaeedMasouri on June 9, 2002 in Tehran from the Islamic Revolutionary Court Branch 6of the Islamic Republic. The only crime committed by Saeed Masouri was thefreedom of thought, which is one of the most fundamental human rights.This death sentence handed down by the Islamic Revolutionary Court is inabsolute defiance towards the UN Declaration on Human Rights in which everyonehuman being is entitled to the freedom of thought and freedom of expression.Furthermore, Saeed Masouri was denied the right to a legitimate lawyer for hiscourt case. Again, the Islamic Republic is defying the UN Declaration on HumanRights in which an accused party is entitled to a fair and public hearing by anindependent and impartial tribunal, in the determination if his rights andobligations of any criminal charge against him.Therefore, due to the Islamic Republic's absolute defiance and oppositiontowards the UN Declaration on Human Rights, the Islamic Republic must receiveimmediate condemnation and the death sentence of Saeed Masouri must come to animmediate and unconditional halt.Saeed Masouri has an emigrant status in Norway (Case # 3032) since 1988. In hisvisit to Iran, Saeed Masouri was arrested and imprisoned and subjected to crueland inhuman treatment in the Islamic prison cells.We condemn the Islamic Republic in regards to their opposition towards the UNDeclaration on Human Rights. The arrest and imprisonment of Saeed Masouri isabsolutely unjust and a crime against Humanity.We request from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch immediate actionagainst the death sentence of Saeed Masouri, and an immediate to the IslamicRepublic's crime against Humanity.
