Matilda Re-Release in Widescreen

To:  Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment

On December 7, 1999, Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment ("the Studio") released "Matilda" on DVD. Despite the studio's usually consistent policy of releasing their films in their original aspect ratio, "Matilda" received a cropped full frame "Pan & Scan" transfer. This wonderful adaptation of Roald Dahl's book deserves an accurate presentation acceptable by all it's fans - young and old. It is greatly disappointing that the Studio made an exception to their OAR policy and we, the undersigned, appeal to the studio to make a special edition release with an Anamorphic widescreen transfer preserving the movie's theatrical aspect ratio.

A loss of approximately 43% of the frame is unacceptable. The Studio is denying themselves sales from a potentially large customer base by not having a widescreen release. A fresh transfer supervised by Danny Devito would be embraced.

Columbia Tristar, please revisit this title and release it with an appropriate presentation. Thank you for your time and please consider this when planning future releases.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
