Bring back 2007's Mathew Street Festival |
The Echo is trying to save the festival by holding gigs at venues around the city centre. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2007/08/03/let-s-save-mathew-street-festival-100252-19565409/
To: Liverpool City CouncilOn August 2nd 2007 it was announced that the Matthew Street Festival for 2007, Liverpool's 800th Birthday, was to be cancelled. The decision came about due to health and safety issues surrounding the Pier Head, Mann Island and Paradise Street. While this is perfectly understandable it seemed a bit silly to cancel the annual free event when similar events take place in Sefton Park, Princess Park and the empty dock areas. It might not be as big but it would be better to have the festival on the weekend of Liverpool's 800th Birthday. The people signing this petition are showing their support of the festival, that they would rather have it outside the city centre than not at all.
Sincerely,
