Stop Shell in Mayo

To:  The Government of Ireland

On 3rd October the Gardaí (Irish police) used force to break through local people blockading the site for Shell's on-shore gas refinery at Bellinaboy, Co. Mayo.

The Irish State has ceded State powers to Shell for the purpose of forcing through a dangerous and environmentally damaging high-pressure gas pipeline and refinery.

The Corrib gas field has been handed over to Shell, and Ireland will foot the bill for the entire project without seeing any benefits whatsoever.

We, the undersigned, demand the abandonment of this plan, and the renegotiation of Ireland's energy laws, which at present allow the population to gain no benefit from their own resources. We ask the Irish State to stop putting the interests of an unscrupulous and vicious international corporation ahead of those of Irish citizens.
