To:  McDonald's

McDonalds has launched a campaign to make the publisher of Oxford's English dictionaries change the definition of the word "McJob", the current definition of the word being "an unstimulating low-paid job with few prospects". We oppose this drive to mold the English language to fit a particular company's marketing needs, even if there are many other companies around that equally deserve the bad PR it entails. The term McJob, made famous by Douglas Copland in his Generation X, where it is described as: "A low-pay, low-prestige, low-dignity, low benefit, no-future job in the service sector" (http://www.askoxford.com/quotations/415?view=uk), does in our opinion convey a lot of truth about the nature of McDonald's jobs. Although McJobs may be better than unemployment, they have a considerable potential for improvement of worker influence and dignity

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
