We, as concerned students of the Memphis City Schools, feel that the injustice of school uniforms has gone on too long. Our schools need serious work, and school uniforms are an attempt at a quick and easy fix that is simply not possible. Uniforms have no proven positive effects on achievement, conduct, or, indeed, anything at all. Again and again, uniform supporters mention these supposed benefits of a uniform policy, whereas in reality no conclusive proof exists. Our school board needs to decide whether or not they wish to continue supporting and enforcing a policy that is as pointless as it is unjust.
