Michigan Driver Responsibility Law |
To: Michigan State House of RepresentativesWe, the constituents of the State of Michigan, resolve to have the "Driver Responsibility Law" (see http://www.michigan.gov/driverresponsibility)revoked.
This law subjects us to being twice penalized, financially, for traffic/ driver-related violations. One penalty is assigned at the receipt of a municipal traffic ticket; the other, by the Treasury of the State of Michigan.
For many of us, the fines imposed are NOT disputable and must be PAID IN FULL upon receipt of a "driver responsibility fee" notice. This punishment, and the inflexibility thereof, cause undue financial hardship. Should we be unable to remit the fines imposed, we are subject to suspension of driving privileges, leading to further financial difficulty and loss.
By signing this petition, we demonstrate our opposition to this revenue-generating measure.
Sincerely,
