Medical Mart: The Cure for Cleveland's Ailing Economy

Cleveland can improve its struggling economy and revitalize downtown by building a Medical Mart tradeshow facility combined with a new convention center. Cleveland's economy and image are suffering; its population has dropped by 60,000 people since 1990, and the unemployment rate is growing. The current convention center only meets an occupancy rate ten percent of its potential because it is over eighty years old and lacks current technology. By bringing a Medical Mart, convention center, and headquarters hotel to downtown, Cleveland could attract new visitors and generate $331 million a year through spending. The choice is clear: Cleveland has the need and would appreciate these new facilities. Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. should select downtown Cleveland as the cite for its new Medical Mart.
