The intersection of Melville Street and Elgin Street in Dundas is extremely dangerous. There is no stop sign along Melville at Elgin, though many young students cross Melville here on their way to Dundas Central Public School. This crossing is also used by families on their way to mass at St. Augustine's Church. Though there is a School Crossing sign on Melville, there is no reduction in the speed limit and with no stop sign from Sydenham to Albert, cars often travel through this intersection at high speed. In addition, because the school doesn't have a dedicated drop-off area, cars line both sides of Elgin north of Melville before and after school. Since there is also a large stone wall on the church property at the north-east corner, visibility for children crossing Melville is quite limited.

We insist that the City of Hamilton lower the speed limit on Melville to 40 kmh and, more importantly, create a 4-way stop at the intersection of Elgin and Melville.
