Petition for Congress to declare 2010 "The Year Of Bettie Page". |
To: U.S. Congress
Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) has proposed a congressional resolution to declare 2010 "The Year Of The Bible", in flagrant disregard for the spirit of the First Amendment of the Bill Of Rights respecting the Establishment Of Religion.
As an alternative to this resolution, I propose that Congress instead adopt a resolution declaring 2010 to be "The Year Of Bettie Page".
As "the most photographed woman in the world", the late Miss Page has touched the lives of millions of people in a positive and profound way. Her battles against sexual victimization and schizophrenia are inspirational, coupled with the shameful treatment she received from the U.S. Government in for the form of the Kefauver Hearings of the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency highlighted the evils of government sponsored witchhunts.
Because of these factors, and the fact that she was pretty darned cool, declaring 2010 "The Year Of Bettie Page" would be both more appropriate and less divisive than the one currently proposed.Sincerely,
The Petition for Congress to declare 2010 "The Year Of Bettie Page". Petition to U.S. Congress was created by and written by Kay Michael (page@xmail.net).
