Opposing Armed & Famous |
To: Mayor Dan CananUndoubtedly, the “Armed & Famous” reality show project has caused quite a negative impact within the Muncie community. We, the residents of Muncie, feel genuine law enforcement has not been demonstrated by this unscrupulous project; but, has made a complete mockery of it.
Not to misconstrue our point, genuine law enforcement is necessary, and should always be in order. And, we are not condoning crime. However, some Muncie residents have been made to feel violated, degraded, and even treated unfairly by the Muncie Police Department (MPD) as a result of the “Armed & Famous” project.
It is humiliating enough to encounter law enforcement when a crime has been committed, but to have the incident scrutinized by this project is simply unjust. There is absolutely no excuse for the immoral way in which some waivers were endorsed under misleading and/or intimidating pretenses.
The “Armed & Famous” project seems to be equivalent to celebrity publicity stunts, nothing more or less. This project should have never been accepted into our city.
We are tax-paying citizens with rights, dignity, and integrity. We do hereby merit R-E-S-P-E-C-T from the MPD, with or without the celebrities. There is a proper way to accomplish all things within our city, law enforcement is no exception.
Having celebrities in our city for the “Armed & Famous” project was not a good idea at all. A notable and more positive project idea, on the other hand, could have been to have the celebrities come to Muncie during the holiday season to volunteer their time & efforts by visiting:
1. Homeless shelters & missions to provide personal necessities, clothing & gifts
2. Nursing homes to provide holiday cheer & gifts to our sick and elderly
3. Elementary schools to read stories and hand out candy canes to our children
4. High schools to discourage our teens from drug and alcohol use & abuse
5. Needy and less fortunate families to provide food, clothing & gifts
Publicized celebrity involvement of this nature would have been hugely welcomed and thoroughly appreciated by the Muncie community.
Mayor Canan, at this time, we would like to strongly request that you take this matter to heart and do whatever you can within your power to immediately terminate the “Armed & Famous” project because it has wrongfully reflected law enforcement in our city.
Surely, those (including a close relative of mine) who have personally experienced an encounter with the “Armed & Famous” project would like to put it behind, and peacefully go on with their lives.
Mayor Canan, if legally possible, make it your mission to have all invalidly endorsed waivers revoked, project production halted, and scheduled airing of the show permanently cancelled. Then, please send the celebrities home.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Callie A. Boyd
Caring, concerned, long-time Muncie resident
Sincerely,
