We the undersigned encourage you to enter the 2004 Republican presidential primary in time to meet upcoming state ballot access filing deadlines. We feel that doing so would:

• Give you an unprecedented opportunity to bring a progressive message to those who typically vote in Republican primaries;

• Keep your traditional voters politically and electorally involved without alienating other social justice advocates who fear a second Bush term;

• "Give the American people a choice as to the political institutions they desire and the clean elections they deserve. Isn't that what politics should be all about?" (These are your own words to the AFP news service about why you might consider a Republican run);

• Weaken George W. Bush in the general election by forcing him to spend money to beat back your challenge;

and

• Spearhead a much-needed effort to return the Republican Party to its Lincolnian values.
