"A society is judged by how it treats it's most vulnerable". These words by Mahatma Ghandi resonate around us every day.

We, the undersigned, feel that our government, both Federal and Provincial, has lost sight of this belief and has made policy that has not only failed to consider its most vulnerable, but has also victimized them. We feel that gross human rights violations have been commited against ourselves, our neighbours and our fellow citizens on an ongoing basis.

Human Rights violations include, but are not limited to, discrimination baced on race, gender, age, disability and source of income. These individuals constitute an ever-growing segment of our population and are made up of men, women, children, families, Native peoples, those struggling with mental health/addiction barriers, physical disabilities and a range of other barriers. They are robbed of their voice, their self-respect, self-reliance and a place in society. The current policies deny them the simplest of human needs.

We, the undersigned, ask that our government begin to take immediate steps to address this growing injustice and begin to recognize these individuals as people under the law, deserving of the same supports and protections as the rest of society. We ask that our elected officials stop looking for "feel good" policies that may make for good media plays, but do nothing to assist the individuals in our society that need it most. We do not require more research, we require action.

The time is now.
