CITIZEN PETITION TO APPROVE CERTIFICATE OF NEED FOR REPLACEMENT FACILITY OF UNITED REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, MANCHESTER, TENNESSEE

The undersigned citizens wish to communicate to the Tennessee Health Services Development Agency (the “Agency”) their support for approval of the Certificate of Need applied for by United Regional Medical Center (the “Hospital”), located in Manchester, Tennessee, for a replacement of the Hospital’s physical structure. We urge the Agency consider the replacement of the Hospital as vital to this community because the Hospital’s 54-year old physical plant almost entirely lacks private rooms for patients, requires patients rely substantially on communal bathrooms, lacks an Intensive Care Unit, and does not offer OB/GYN services, all of which will be remedied by the proposed replacement Hospital. We believe the Agency must realize that these limitations of the Hospital’s current structure cause us to avoid utilizing the Hospital and require that we travel substantial distance from our home and community in order to obtain necessary medical care, consequences that will be eliminated by the construction of the replacement Hospital. Manchester Tennessee is a growing vibrant community that deserves a modern, full service hospital – not one built for another era.
