NK Schools: Principal of High School

To:  North Kingstown School Committee

Following a recent audit of the North Kingstown High School Student Activities Fund where auditors noted questionable expenditures that were not found to be criminal or fraudulent, the current members of the North Kingstown School Committee voted "no confidence" in and formally asked for the resignation of the high school principal, Gerald Foley, who has served this community and our students admirably for the past 20 years. This action was taken after rejecting Superintendent Thornton's request for a five day suspension.

We, the undersigned, disagree with the school committee that any disciplinary action should be taken against Mr. Foley (including the potential non-renewal of Gerald Foley's 2010/2011 contract as the high school principal). Under the leadership skills of Mr. Foley, North Kingstown High School has become a nationally recognized, high performing school that serves as the cornerstone of this community. Mr. Foley has been instrumental in creating a high school that every community member can be proud. The continued high academic performance has helped to raise property values and attract new residents to our town. It is essential that Mr. Foley continue to lead and develop our high school for as many years as he is willing to continue that endeavor.

We, the undersigned, (concerned citizens and taxpayers of the North Kingstown, Jamestown and Saunderstown communities) strongly urge the school committee to renew the contract of Gerald Foley as Principal of North Kingstown High School for the 2010/2011 Academic Year.
