Stop Fees on Government Benefit Cards

To:  U.S. Congress

Over 30 states have outsourced administration of benefit payments, such as Child Support, Unemployment, and Welfare to a system of Government Benefit Debit Cards that is being administered by private banks. These cards carry predatory and extraordinary fees and limitations and their terms should be aligned with those of conventional debit cards or this program should be stopped.

We object to the following conditions:
**Fees for in-network ATM withdrawals
**Fees for purchases
**Fees for calling customer support
**Lack of notification of balances and fees incurred
**Provisions denying clients the right to sue
**Provisions allowing the administrator to freeze the account without notice
**Opt-in by default and reduction of alternatives

This program is being rapidly expanded nationally and is reportedly being considered for Social Security and possibly all government benefits in the future. This exploitation of the most vulnerable members of our society cannot be allowed to continue.
