We, the undersigned would like you (Safeway) to cease selling halal meat.

We understand and appreciate that meat prepared in this way has a religious significance for some inhabitants of Great Britain but we also believe that to purposely slit a live, unanaesthetised animal's throat and leave it to bleed to death is cruel and barbaric.
Exsanguination is a very painful and frightening way to die.

Instead of continuing to sell and promote this procedure, we would ask you to work with the religious leaders concerned in an attempt to come up with a symbolic ritual that would be more acceptable.
