End Hawaii's Stone Age Quarantine! |
To: Members of the Hawaii State Board of AgricultureWe assert that Hawaii's current quarantine laws are cruel, outdated, costly, and unnecessary.
This expensive, mandatory quarantine has never intercepted one single case of rabies in its 91 year term. Employees at the Halawa Station are not even required to be vaccinated against rabies themselves, and sanitary conditions at Halawa Station are insufficient to prevent the spread of any disease or parasite present. We believe this shows that Halawa Station does not expect to encounter rabies at all, and protest against imprisoning our beloved pets in such conditions.
We fully support keeping Hawaii rabies-free. As responsible pet owners, we can prove that our pets are rabies free using modern medical tests, and feel that our pets should not be unnecessarily imprisoned for up to four months.
We ask all interested parties to review Ruby's Law.
We support Ruby's Law because it is SAFER than quarantine.
We oppose State Veterinarian Foppoli's proposed quarantine changes because they do not reflect modern science, retain overwhelming barriers to tourism and free travel for Hawaii's citizens, and inflate the income generated by his department.
We urge all legislators to read the report from the Medical and Scientific Professionals Committee of the Community Quarantine Reform Coalition.
We ask the legislators of Hawaii to be courageous, to apply common sense to this issue, and to support Ruby's Law.Sincerely,
