We beleive there is insufficient evidence to support any removal of badgers as part of an effective bovine TB strategy.
Northern Ireland has attained a 50\% reduction in bovine TB in cattle since 2002. This has been accomplished by implementing rigorous cattle testing and movement controls.
Notably, Northern Ireland is the only region in these islands to achieve this sustained level of improvement and has done so without resorting to interfering with our badger population.
To proceed with a badger removal strategy on any scale would be contrary to expert opinion and against the wishes of the majority of Northern Ireland citizens, including many in the rural community.
Serious welfare problems arise when nursing females are killed leaving their cubs to die alone underground from starvation.
I urge you to reconsider your decision and to abandon plans for any badger intervention.
