A Petition to Prevent Facebook (a.k.a facebook.com) from Becoming a Public Service |
To: Mark Zuckerberg and FacebookWhereas the Facebook was created as a social networking site for academia,
Whereas many current members joined under that assumption,
Whereas we have placed our trust in Facebook in spite of the News Feed and the Facebook Development Platform,
Whereas we are greatly concerned about our privacy on the Internet,
Whereas we enjoy the services that facebook.com provides in its current state,
Whereas we believe that, until recently, Facebook has been able to balance privacy with better features,
Whereas we are appalled at the idea of Facebook being open to anyone with an e-mail address,
Whereas if we wanted a social networking tool akin to Friendster or MySpace we would have joined one of those services,
BE IT RESOLVED that we respectfully ask Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and all concerned parties to refrain from opening the Facebook service to everyone with a valid e-mail address.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we will refrain from purchasing any products or services advertised on facebook.com AND/OR we will terminate our accounts with Facebook should Facebook make the aforementioned expansion.Sincerely,
