Oppose Bland County VA Puppymill |
To: Bland County Planning Commission and Board of SupervisorsOPPOSE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR PUPPY MILL IN BLAND COUNTY, VIRGINIA
On March 28, 2007 a puppy mill in Mechanicsburg, Bland County, Virginia burned to the ground and killed 192 dogs and puppies inside. The owner of the puppy mill did not have the required Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to operate a commercial kennel on the property zoned “Agricultural” by the Bland County Planning Commission. The county administration was unaware that the kennel business existed. The owner has applied for a CUP so he can rebuild the puppy mill. This CUP application will be voted on by the Bland County Board of Supervisors in June. There are still 100+ dogs on his property in outdoor cages.
Puppy mills are commercial breeding facilities that produce puppies in large numbers. The puppies are sold either directly to the public via the Internet, newspaper ads, or are sold to brokers and pet shops across the country.
We, the undersigned are opposed to granting a Conditional Use Permit for the operation of a puppy mill in Bland County, Virginia.
Sincerely,
