Recently the WB network has given the axe to the clever animated TV series, "The Oblongs." The show involves a group of misfits who have developed bizarre mutations due to their low-income living conditions, being stuck in a "valley where a chemical spill came from the [rich] people living up on the hill." If for no other reason, the show should be applauded for its' portrayal of people with disabilities being treated as equally and normally as anyone else would (and should) be treated.
The low-rated series was placed opposite FOX's hit "Malcolm in the Middle" for its short 8 week run, where it was unable to develop an audience. The scheduling in itself was suicide, considering "Malcolm" is really the only other show on TV to feature a disabled character. On Sunday, May 20th, 2001, the WB is running the second episode shot, "Disfigured Debbie," as the season finale -- but there are still five episodes that are being left unaired. While the show doesn't appear on the upcoming fall or mid-season replacement schedules, it has not officially been canceled as of yet.
Which is where this petition comes in. If you would like to see the series return to the airwaves with the unaired episodes and perhaps a second season, please sign below and urge the WB to resurrect the "The Oblongs" in the timeslot following the higher-rated "Nikki," which the show has more in common with than its' previous lead-in, "The Steve Harvey Show" -- and where it may be able to develop the audience that the show deserves.
