The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) should start an investigation into Microsoft and Intel. Windows has a market share of 96\% worldwide, easily more than the 40\% required by the OFT to start an investigation, of the remaining 4\% Apple's MacOS makes up 2.3\% and non-commercial software the rest. Steve Jobs at the WWDC in May stated that MacOS would move to the x86 PC architecture, removing all hardware choice in the market. Apple will face MicrosOFT and it's anti-competitive behaviour on their ground not Apples, the move itself was caused by Apple losing the fight for market share. We and the OFT all know about the illegal anti-competitive practises of MS and yet the OFT has done nothing, while using MS software on it's homepage. I could talk for hours about the details of their abuse of the market from articifial incompatibilities, destroyer pricing, per processor licensing, buying revivals to vapourware. The OFT was set up by the elder statesman of the past for good reason, the OFT's website has said in the past "Excessive prices or reduction in quality of service are typical of results of exploitation of a monopoly situation", MS products are both poor quality (too many bugs) and overpriced. It is the job of the OFT to deal with this problem, the signatories of this petitions view is clear, the OFT should start an investigation now and stop wasting time rearranging chairs. It is time to end the worlds biggest monopoly!
