Recently, America Online Inc. has started to block AIM clones (Trillian, Jabber, etc) and we, the people, believe that this is unfair. Not only do we believe this is an extravagant sign of monopoly but we also believe that AOL is being ignorant in many senses through this situation. Making AIM accessible through Trillian is not an attempt to "hack" AOL's systems. Blocking Trillian isn't going to make AOL more secure because Trillian isn't a "hacking" program. In no way does it increase the vulnerability of AOL's systems. Trillian is simply making AIM easier to use and more convenient for users who use multiple chatting services. We believe, at least, that AOL should not block third party software. If AOL fails to comply with these requests then we, the signees, will refuse to support AOL in any way even if it means giving up the AIM service.
