We, the undersigned, wish for the source code of the PC game, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, to be made available to the public. In our opinion, making the source publicly available would benefit all parties involved. Here are a few, among many, reasons why this would be a positive contribution:

1. This is not a modern, bleeding-egde game anymore.
The chances that there are trade secrets inside that could give the competition an egde if let out are slim.

2. The material retains its copyright; it can still be sold.
People would still need to purchase a copy of the game to get the associated data files, music, art, etc., so it wouldn't impact your sales.

3. It would contribute to the community.
It would create the opportunity for a new, open-source, enhanced version of the game to be made available. It would open up the possibility for things to be done which are currently impossible to do in a mod.

4. It would generate new interest in C&C and, therefore, boost sales of any future C&C games.
Realizing that there's so much they've been missing out on, many former fans would take another look at Tiberian Sun and the new mapping and modding opportunities described in (3) which would open. They would, then, be more interested to see how the story continues or, at the very least, have the name, "Command & Conquer," fresh in their minds.

This, by no means, would be the first case of a commercial game going open source, as Id have already released the source to the hit games, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake I and II. Id also suggests plans of releasing the Quake III source (2000). Among the active C&C community are many programmers eager to undertake such a task described in (3), and if you make the source public, it will bring great benefits to both the community and you.
