Live Bird Shipping Crisis Across America

On Friday June 24th 2005 we were contacted by our local post office that they were once again able to accept our live birds for shipping. Although this was a short lived rule (from June 20th to June 24th) please continue to sign this petition in support of any further rules set forth by the post office and also in support of the airline issues we still face. Although we can once again ship from our local post offices the airlines still have restrictions on shipping into and out of certain areas across the U.S. This issue has been and is still being addressed by Bird Shippers of America who can be found at www.birdshippers.org with the details. Please continue to show your support in their efforts as well as any that may arise with the post office. Also please let us know if you notice any inappropriate signatures and we will delete them. Seems there are some people with nothing better to do.

To:  Post Master General

As fellow bird breeders and enthusiasts we would like to thank you for taking time to look at our petition concerning the United States Postal Service new procedures on shipping live birds that is putting far to many of us in a very bad situation. This is affecting hobbyists, breeders, hatcheries, online auction buyers and sellers alike because far too many of us are being forced to sell only locally, to certain states only or sell out of our birds because we can no longer ship them at all due to the local post offices refusal to accept them except at their acceptance centers which for many of us are 2 hours and more away. In addition to the express mail charges we already charge our customers to ship the birds we will also have the expense of traveling these long miles which in turn increases the expenses for the customer. Then there are others of us who cannot travel like this to ship our birds that we normally had no problems shipping through the USPS until recently. In 3 years of shipping live birds we have never had any problems that would warrant for the Post Office to make this decision. With all the phone calling we have been doing we have yet to find someone that acts like they half way understand how much this is impacting so many people throughout the USA so we decided to start this petition to show exactly how many areas and how many people this is affecting and put a stop to it. The Post Office should be required to do their job and accept your outgoing and incoming live bird shipments as they have done in the past. They should not be allowed to tell you standing there with birds in a box "Oh, sorry although we have been shipping them for you for ___ years we cannot accept your birds anymore. You now have to drive 2 or more hours to give them to us to ship". Don't let them take your business, hobby, pride and joy from you. This petition will be sent to all appropriate persons involved with the main one being the Post Master General. Please Sign the petition to show your support.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
