Portland Hills Parking

To:  HRM/Metro Transit

Some of us leave 90 minutes early to ensure we have parking in this lot and so we can catch our bus.
Some of us pay extra for a Link Pass only to have to go without on the days when parking was not available.
And we all pay taxes

Private Parking tickets have been issued in this lot. The public should not be ticketed for trying to use the terminal when it is HRM & Metro Transit that have neglected the demand.

When HRM and Metro Transit developed the Portland Hills Terminal there was no foresight into what the demand was going to be and how much parking it would need. Despite the fact that Cole Harbor has not stopped growing in more than 20 years and now with the new Russell Lake developments, no expansion has been done to the lot since 1 year after its opening.

From HRM:

“Within two weeks of the introduction of Phase I at Portland Hills, Metro Transit personnel knew the service was a hit. The Park & Ride lot, designed to accommodate 175 cars, was filled to capacity each weekday. More land had to be acquired to expand the lot to 230 spaces, which was completed in June 2006.”

It is once again long overdue to accommodate for the huge demand on this terminal.
