DOT Queens East River Greenway Parking Loss

Dear Mayor Michael Bloomberg, DOT Commissioner Iris Weinshall, Queens DOT Commissioner Constance Moran, Borough President Helen Marshall, Council Member Tony Avella, and Queens Community Boards 1 ad 2, let it be known by our signatures below that we who are residents, and visitors, of the Long Island City community of Queens County, New York, vehemently oppose the DOT Vernon Boulevard/Queens East River Greenway proposal.

The referenced proposal includes implementing Parking Loss on the West Side of Vernon Boulevard in areas between 38th Avenue and Main Avenue. To limit Parking along Vernon Boulevard would negatively impact the quality of life of Long Island City residents in this area.

Mass Transit currently underserves the area mentioned, and parking spaces are scarce for residential parkers. Long Island City, and this area in particular, are undergoing major development, with many residential buildings at or near completion along Vernon Boulevard. The residents of these buildings will have a specific need for on street parking, as many of the sites are not offering parking garages as an amenity.

In summary, we the undersigned respectfully request the DOT Greenway Plan be revisited, in a format which does not include Parking Loss along Vernon Boulevard.
